To find your polling place, go to http://www.co.santa-fe.nm.us/clerk.

While the intent of SFCC in wanting to make 4 year+ college education more affordable and accessible to local students is laudale, the current package of projects included in the bond issue is a laundry list of expenditures that are not all financially sound, nor necessarily support the primary goal.

Why is SFCC not building the Higher Education Center at its' Richards Avenue Campus where it already owns plenty of land, instead of buying land downtown from the State?

How is $7 million of roadwork on SFCC property supposed to relieve traffic congestion in and around the campus, when the city/county have no plans to improve feeder roads into the campus area?

How is the expenditure of $7.5 million to convert to solar energy supported when it only produces an energy savings payback of $465,000 per year? At this rate, the payback will never be achieved.

Though they are correct when they say this bond issue "may " reduce the current per mill SFCC portion of our property taxes, they do not say this per mill portion would go down dramatically if the bond issue is defeated, as current and existing general obligation bonds mature. These are just some of the things that make this Bond Issue questionable.

It's too bad SFCC did not cut or remove entirely some of these extraneous project to lower the overall amount of $35 million, to make this bond more fiscally responsible and truly supportive of its' goal, and held this vote on November 2.

But as it stand now, in its' current form, please consider a vote of " NO " on August 3

I urge you all to be aware of this bond issue election, get educated on its' content, and vote on August 3, making your own decision. BUT please get out and vote!!!!!!! EVERY VOTE COUNTS!!.

To find out more about the bond issue you can go to www.votesfcc.com

In these type of elections even the smallest numbers can prevail. The Santa Fe T.E.A. Party urges all citizens to demand accountability from our elected officials. Please read ... and take action! Write letters to the editor. Contact your State Representive and State Senator. Contact the Attorney General's office.

Thursday, May 20, 2010

CYFD Ignored Rule of Law

By Hal Stratton And Heather Wilson
Former Attorney General Former Secretary of CYFD

After over 30 years of observing government in New Mexico, it is difficult to be shocked by incompetence or illegal acts on the part of some that serve in state government. However, the recent debacle by the governor and the state Children Youth and Families Department cannot go without comment.

This agency reports through its spokesman that in 2006 then secretary of CYFD, Mary-Dale Bolson, "suspended" a duly promulgated regulation that provides that "any time juvenile justice services staff determines a client is a foreign national the staff immediately notifies the bureau of immigration and customs enforcement (ICE)."

There's a catch here, however.

A duly promulgated regulation has the effect of law and cannot be "suspended" without going through the proper administrative procedure and due process of law.

Because CYFD acted as if this regulation did not exist, CYFD failed to notify ICE and released Juan Gonzalez when he was charged with molesting a 3-year-old girl and raping a 6-year-old boy in 2005 when he was found not competent to stand trial. He walked.

Then, in 2008 Gonzalez was arrested again for (allegedly) raping a 4-year-old.

CYFD again acted as if this regulation didn't exist. When the case fell apart because the 4-year-old and her family disappeared, CYFD didn't call ICE to have Gonzalez deported as they are required to do. They released him back into New Mexico society.

A first-year law student learns that neither a cabinet secretary, the governor nor even the president can "suspend" a validly promulgated regulation.

Due process requires that to amend or repeal any regulation, the agency must engage in an administrative procedure involving a hearing and an opportunity for the public to comment.

And, if the lawyers at CYFD, who reportedly advised the secretary that she could "suspend" the regulation had difficulty in law school, all they had to do was read the state CYFD statute on the matter which states "no regulation affecting any person or agency outside the department shall be adopted, amended or repealed without a public hearing on the proposed action before the secretary or a hearing officer designated by the secretary."

This week, when their responsibility for this devastating chain of events became all too clear, the governor directed that CYFD partially comply with its own regulation and tell ICE when they have violent criminals or sex offenders in custody who are foreign nationals.

His lawyers apparently didn't do too well in law school, either.

He can't and shouldn't tell a department to only comply with their rules in some cases. If he wants to change the promulgated rule and stop telling ICE about illegal immigrants arrested for crimes like drug trafficking, stealing cars or burglary, he has to direct the department to engage in a rulemaking to change the regulations that should have been governing their conduct all along.

In fact, we wonder if he or the lieutenant governor, who chairs the Children's Cabinet, told Bolson to "suspend" the rules back in 2006.

It certainly would have been consistent with their policy views — policy views that they appear to be modifying now that their horrific consequences are so abundantly clear.

Neither the lawyers, nor the CYFD secretary nor the governor, for that matter, had any regard for the rule of law, due process, the Constitution or the victims....

They believed and apparently still believe they are above the law and that they are able to dictate what the law should be rather than what it actually is.

The Richardson administration did not want to enforce the regulation, for whatever reason, so, rather than engage in the legal process to change the law, they just substituted their own view of what they wanted the law to be.

And now, because of the administration's arrogance and chutzpah, another innocent child, a 6-year-old little girl playing at a local gym has her life shattered by the act of a (suspected) criminal that could have been prevented.

Well, governor, you're a little late. How about appointing secretaries and public servants to state government who really mean it when they swear to support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and laws of this state? And rather than directing them as to which laws they should enforce, have them enforce them all as enacted or promulgated.

And, please remember, as John Adams taught us, we are a government of laws, not of men — or at least we should be.

It works better that way.

Hal Stratton is the former N.M. attorney general and former chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Heather Wilson is the former Cabinet Secretary of CYFD and a former member of Congress.

Understanding the Tea Party Network - Who's In Charge?

Individual tea party groups started to spring up all around the country early in 2009. For the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party, it started with Rick Santelli's rant on CNBC as the stock market began to tumble and the federal government was in full bail-out mode. I suspect that this is how many tea party groups started. Speaking only on behalf of the Santa Fe group, we are completely local, grass roots, take no direction from anyone outside of our group, and take no money from any outside group. We determined our own Mission Statement and decide what issues to advocate for.

The common tie is that we share in a general philosophy. Many groups, such as the 20+ groups in New Mexico, network to share ideas, projects, and event information.

Once the tea party movement started to pick up steam, several people started to set up national organizations in order to capture the momentum and effectiveness of the people involved in local tea parties around the country. It appears to us that there has been an attempt for these organizations to claim that they are the leaders of this movement.

In our opinion, there is no national leader of the movement. There are national figures who support the ideals and goals of the movement. There are organizations that help to promote the movement. But the vast majority of tea parties are still grass roots, local entitites.

Some of the national groups that have sprung up are:

Tea Party Patriots
Tea Party Express
Tea Party Nation
Freedom Works
Patriot Vetting
And many more ...

The rise of the many national and local groups is a clear indication that there is a hunger for leadership for conservative principles that neither party has provided. These national groups are trying to capitalize on that sentiment.

It is a good thing that these smaller local groups joined together by the hundreds of thousands in common philosophy to make a bold statement at the national and regional rallies. This has allowed the movement to have more power and to mobilize even more concerned citizens into activism. How many times have we heard a tea party supporter say that this is the first time they have ever attended a rally?

Some confusion has resulted in the past week over whether or not the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party is a member of one or more of the national organizations. Here are the facts.

To promote our rallies, we posted our contact information on most of the national sites - any that we could find. This seemed to be the most effective way of promoting our events. We were unaware that by doing so would indicate that we became a "member" of any of these groups.

Since it is difficult to determine exactly who is in charge of these groups, and what their motives and objectives are, we did not and do not wish to have a formal affiliation with a national group at all. We will stand on our own principles, on our own agenda, on our own actions. At the same time, we will support the general goal of the tea party movement as a whole.

We also hope to continue to network with other groups and share information so that we can continue to work together to affect change at all levels of government. There are many good people working hard in New Mexico and around the country on behalf of freedom, liberty, individual rights, states rights, and Constitutionality. We commend them all for stepping up to the plate and becoming active in the political process. We may not always agree with each other on specific issues, but hopefully we will continue to join forces on the issues we do agree with.

Our Mission Statement is posted on this blog for you to read.

PRESS RELEASE

The following is the press release sent out upon approval of the Santa Fe TEA Party organizing committee on Monday, May 24, 2010:

PRESS RELEASE
May 23, 2010

NO CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENTS FROM THE SANTA FE TEA PARTY

This past week a press release was issued from a gubernatorial campaign with the headline stating that the head of the New Mexico Tea Party was endorsing the candidate. The Santa Fe T.E.A. Party wants to clarify the misconceptions in this announcement.

The individual supporting this candidate did state in the text of the press release that she is supporting the candidate as an individual and does not speak for any tea party group. Unfortunately, the campaign wrote a misleading headline to create the impression that the support was from a large coalition of tea parties across the state.

This is not true. Complaints to the campaign were made and requests to correct the headline were ignored.

New Mexico tea party groups are autonomous, grass roots organizations and are not run by or influenced by any state or national organization. No state or national organization speaks for the individual tea parties or directs their activities in any way.

The Santa Fe T.E.A. Party is made up of a diverse group of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Consistent with its Mission Statement, the Santa Fe T.E.A. party does not endorse candidates for any office. We encourage our members to research all candidates and make their own decisions about whom to support – regardless of party affiliation. Our focus as a group is advocating our core issues – taxes, deficit, government spending, adherence to the Constitution, and limited governmental intervention on personal rights.

Of the personal issues that tea party supporters care most about, honesty and integrity are at the top of the list. We expect and demand accuracy in any public statement made by currently elected officials and candidates.

The Santa Fe T.E.A. party believes that political spin is not just deceptive; it is an attempt to sway voter opinion using wrong or misleading information and is an insult to the voters who take the time to research the facts. We call on all candidates to run their campaigns based on facts and focused on issues – especially our core issues.

Santa Fe T.E.A. If you cannot be at the rally but wish to participate, see our "VIRTUAL RALLY" information at the end of this post.

10:00 am
Santa Fe TEA Party member Ed Brown, attorney Randy Bevis, Dr. Rick Morlen, ABQ TEA Party activist Sylvia Bokor and former Congresswoman Heather Wilson will meet with Attorney General Gary King to deliver petitions with over 3500 signatures from New Mexico voters from all over the state. The petition will urge the Attorney General to join the 21 other states in filing suit to stop the new health care reform from being implemented in New Mexico. Key points are the costs, unfunded mandates and states' rights. The petition is attached.

10:30 am
Tea Party supporters and those who support our petition to urge the A.G. to join in fighting the new health care mandates will gather on the West side of the Capitol and hold a rally. People are expected from Santa Fe, Farmington, ABQ, East Mtn. Tea Party, possibly others. A donation box will be available. Copies of the Constitution will be available. The supporters will line the sidewalk as the five who met with the attorney general make their way to the Capitol.

11:30 am (approximately 15 minutes)
Press Conference on the steps of the Capitol, West Side. The media has been invited.

Noon
Post rally get together at Rio Chama Steakhouse. (If you plan to join us at Rio Chama, please respond to the survey on the side bar.)

VIRTUAL RALLY

For those who cannot attend the rally in person, we have a way to 'virtually' participate!

Here's how: We are asking people to send an email to the Attorney General between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. Emails can be submitted through the Attorney General's website (www.nmag.gov) at this link:

http://www.nmag.gov/HealthCareBillComments/Default.aspx

We would like to know how many emails were sent - if possible, everyone should send a quick email to SantaFePatriots@live.com to let us know they participated in this email blast. They can copy the text of their email if they want to. The text of the email should read something like this:

To Attorney General Gary King:

Since I am not able to attend the meeting with you this morning, I am sending my views via email. I urge you to join the 21 other states who have filed suit against the Federal Government to prohibit the mandated health care reform on the citizens of New Mexico. Please consider the costs to New Mexico taxpayers, the violation of states' rights, and the impact on health care services to the voters of New Mexico. Please register my support for the petitions being delivered today.

Sincerely, Name, Address, City, Zip. (Their address should be the same as on their voter registration.)

TWO "MUST READS" and Breaking News!

In the left column, there are two things you must read! If you prefer to make signs at home, please have your signs focus on the Health Care Issue. Use facts and figures that support our position .... it will raise health care costs, it is likely unconstitutional, oversteps state's rights, etc. You can find plenty of information at www.heritage.org and www.newsmax.com as well as other reputable sites. Please be factual and accurate.

Show your support by coming to the pre-press conference rally at 10:30 am on the West side of the Capitol. Bring your signs! Supporters will line the sidewalk to welcome the five people who will be meeting with the Attorney General, then stand behind them during the brief press conference. Your show of support is very important.

Please help us to spread the word! Since this rally is in the middle of the day on a weekday, we are not likely to get the large turnout that we have had at our previous rallies. We need all of you to help bring in as many people as possible.

Thank you all for your continued support!

SANTA FE TEA PARTY PRESS RELEASE

Representatives of T.E.A. Party groups from around that State of New Mexico will be meeting with Attorney General Gary King on May 12th at 10:00 am to deliver petitions requesting that he join the 21 other states who have filed suit to prevent the Health Care Reform bill from being enacted in New Mexico.

"We have seen an outpouring of support for this project from thousands of voters from all political parties and from all parts of New Mexico. While we believe there needs to be health care reform, this bill will burden the State of New Mexico with unfunded mandates and, in our opinion, violates the Constitution - specifically as it relates to State's rights," said Sheryl Bohlander, Chair of the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party.

Supporters of the petition will gather at 10:30 for a rally on the West side of the Capitol.

A press conference has been scheduled for 11:30 on the steps of the Capitol on the West side. Former Congresswoman Heather Wilson, Dr. Rick Morlen, co-chairman of the Education Committee of the Albuquerque Tea Party, attorney Randy Bevis, Ed Brown, representing the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party as ignorant, uneducated, racists, all-white, rich Republicans - and so on and so on. You know the talking points - it was Bush's fault, why didn't we protest during the last Administration, it's all about Obama's race, etc.

One woman - a teacher - who attended the rally in opposition to what we were doing was quoted as saying that she was there to see all the stupid people. What an intelligent comment! (NOT!) Another letter to the editor commented that their side won the election and majority rules - deal with it. Another woman complained that her son was not allowed his right to free speech since he was asked to leave .... was this one of the young boys holding up the "Nazi Youth for Low Taxes" signs? What was their purpose??? They certainly were not part of the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party. The 'other side' frequently uses derrogatory labels to describe the people who attend the T.E.A. Party (racist, ignorant, etc. etc.). How many of us had even heard the term "teabagger" before the mainstream media (including those who have been considered leading journalists)started using it as if it were as non-offensive as 'demonstrator'. Yet, people all over the world now know that this is a reference to perversion that I don't want to describe in this blog. Yet ... our critics get away with using such a term.

Self-described members of the NAACP claim racism and harrasment - really? Sounds like a made-up story to me - read below what Steve Terrell said about hatred and racism (he didn't see it!).

Readers can make their own decision about who the participants at the tea party are, what they stand for, and what has really gone on at our rallies. People can read our Mission Statement. They can look at the dozens of photos and videos posted on the internet. They can even read what New Mexican journalist, Steve Terrell, has written and blogged about.

Roundhouse Roundup - by Steve Terrell / www.santafenewmexican.com

"Apparently April 15 is destined to be a national day of protest over taxes -- at least until the day they abolish the IRS, and you know what Buddy Holly would say about that.

Maybe it's just because it's Santa Fe and so many people know each other, but I really don't sense the intense anger here that I've read about and seen on TV coverage of the Tea Party elsewhere. Yes there's serious disagreement with the Obama administration and other Democrats in power. And yes, there's lots of passion expressed.

But hateful? I didn't hear it. Racist? I didn't see it.

Nobody spit on or cursed state Rep. Brian Egolf -- a Santa Fe Democrat -- as he walked through the crowd. Nobody screamed at him when they were discussing his position on Voter ID bills. The worst thing said there was "you're so full of bluster!" by a woman who stalked off toward the end of that conversation.

To the right is a photo of Egolf meeting for the first time Brigitte Russell, his Republican opponent in November.

At the risk of sounding too namby-pamby in these divisive times, I actually think it's healthy in these divisive times for people to go down to the Plaza on a sunny day and talk about politics, protest things you don't like. I also think it's healthy for politicians to hear directly from folks who disagree with them and have good, civil exchanges of ideas."

We appreciate Steve Terrell's observations and fair reporting. We hope that the editors of the New Mexican will be more careful when choosing which letters or guest columns to print. We also want to thank those who have supported us but who couldn't make it.

One of our attendees taped the event and has posted it on You Tube - you can watch it at this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMwSAjhRfAY

If any of you want to send photos or videos, please send them to santafepatriots@live.com.

Our estimates, based on the number of stickers passed out, was somewhere around 900 in attendance. (The New Mexican reported "hundreds" in their article about the tea party and "about 200" in the caption under the photo. The Journal North reported around 400.)

One of our volunteers commented .... there couldn't have been that many here ... there's no trash all over the place!" So thank you all for keeping the Plaza clean after the rally .... conservatives ARE good people, we care about the environment, we throw away our trash and don't litter! Of course, the tea party haters will probably spin this fact as "TEA Party goers cut city workers hours (no trash to pick up!) Although we hope we don't get protesters at our rally, we would like to have as many cameras going as possible to capture any disruption. You might also enjoy filiming the event for your own enjoyment, of course. If you do bring your camera and have photos or videos that you would like to share, please contact us after the event at SantaFeTeaParty@live.com. If you would like to have some of them posted on our website, please indicate that you are giving your permission.

* There will be several barrels around the Plaza for you to drop off donations of non-perishable food items which will be delivered to the Food Depot. Please join us in stocking the shelves for this great organization.

* The weather can be unpredicatable - cool, windy, rainy, or perfectly warm and sunny. Please be prepared and be comfortable.

* We will not provide any refreshments at the rally. You can bring your own non-alcoholic beverage and/or picnic or purchase items at the local businesses. PLEASE USE THE TRASH CANS TO DISPOSE OF YOUR GARBAGE. Restrooms are also not available on the Plaza, but La Fonda is across the street and has facilities that are open to the public.

* Be comfortable and enjoy the event! You may want to bring a folding chair since there is limited seating provided. Remember that we cannot stand or have chairs on the grass - only the concrete areas.

* Be sure to sign up at the T.E.A. Party table so you will continue getting updates on future T.E.A. Party events, Action Alerts that will let you know what the issues are and how you can help, and about future meetings.

* Finally, please support our local businesses and stay in town for dinner afterwards! We are fighting for their success and prosperity, too!
SIGN THE PETITION!

The Sante Fe T.E.A. Party, as well as several other groups around the state will have petitions at the rallies that will be delivered to the Attorney General after a Press Conference in the coming weeks. The petition will urge the Attorney General to join other states in opposing this law - not only does it appear to be unconstitutional, it will have a devastating financial effect on New Mexico. Please come to the Plaza and sign the petition! So far, 10 states have filed suit to stop the Health Care Reform law from imposing on their states.

We will keep you posted on the schedule for the Press Conference and delivery of the petitions. We are hoping to organize a LARGE event, so if you can join us, we'd love to have you! Details will also be posted on our website at www.SantaFeTeaParty.blogspot.com.

NOTE:

The organizers of the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party have gone to great lengths to organize a peaceful, family-friendly event that gives the public a platform to voice their concerns over fiscal irresponsibility, the over-reach of the federal government, the unsustainable debt, etc. We respectfully ask that participants honor our efforts by maintaining civility, common sense, and non-violence.

Remember that the media will seek out anyone who appears to be a radical - please don't give them any ammunition. It is our sincere hope that the messages we deliver at this event - and future ones - will be based on common sense, logic, facts, and that in the end, we will be able to build a strong coalition of voters from all political parties and all walks of life that will indeed bring about the changes we all hope for.

APRIL 15th IS FAST APPROACHING!

With less than 2 weeks to go, the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party is hard at work to make this our most exciting, enjoyable, and meaningful rally yet!

Join us this Wednesday, April 7th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm for a sign-making party. Get to know the organizers and volunteers and hear about the exciting plans for this rally.

NOTES:

The Santa Fe T.E.A. Party is concerned about the economy and fiscal issues only - the debt, irresponsible spending, the federal mandates on the states, increasing tax burdens, and the lack of focus on job creation. Our rally is not a platform for other issues. If you would like our guideline for making your own signs, please email us at SantaFePatriots@live.com or join us on Wednesday.

We are a grassroots organization that relies on private donations to fund our events. We are not affiliated with any political party, any other T.E.A. Party organization (except to support the general philosophy), and do not support any political candidate for any office.

We are asking people to bring non-perishable foods to the rally as a donation for the Food Depot. Several barrels will be available throughout the Plaza.

If you have an organization that you would like to promote or are a political candidate, you may want to have a table at the rally where you can talk with hundreds of potential supporters. Contact us for complete details.

We do not have an advertising budget. Please help us to spread the word! Our goal is to have well over 1,000 people at this rally. If you would like a copy of our flyer to send to your contacts or to pass out, email us and we'll send it to you.

If you would like to help, contact us or come to the meeting on Wednesday.

Tax Day TEA Party 2010 - April 15th!

We are hard at work on the planning for the April 15th Tea Party and we will be holding weekly planning session at the Whole Hog Cafe on Cerrillos Road from 5:30 - 7:30 every Weds. evening. Party Rally - January 19, 2010

RALLY AT THE ROUNDHOUSE

The Albuquerque Tea Party has organized a rally to be held at the Roundhouse on Tuesday, January 19th in conjunction with the opening day of the Legislative Session. We hope all Santa Fe T.E.A. Partiers will join them!

9:00: Go to your legislators offices and introduce yourself. Chances are you will only meet the Assistants, not the Legislator, but that is OK. Let them know that you will be observing the session. You might want to leave a short letter stating your positions on the various things that will be covered in this session - specifically the budget, taxes, etc. Also mention that you are supporting the Photo Voter ID bill.

10-11:00: Join the ABQ people on the Paseo de Peralta side of the Capitol. Bring your signs! We'll greet Legislators as they come into the Roundhouse.

Noon: The session is scheduled to start at noon and our Patriots will go into the Roundhouse to observe. Signs have to be left outside. Please wear your T.E.A. Party shirts (contact us for more information) so that the Legislators will recognize us.

Afternoon: Attend committee hearings! This is most important! Legislators need to know that there is a conservative / common sense presence watching and listening to them as they make their decisions. Hearing schedules are not set in stone. To make sure you know what room and what time a specific committee is meeting, please sign up for text alerts by emailing us at SantaFePatriots@live.com.

For more information, visit the Albuquerque Tea Party website at www.albuquerqueteaparty.com.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://santafeteaparty.blogspot.com/2010/01/tea-party-rally-january-19-2010.html' title='T.E.A. The state is considering taxing food, increasing income tax and they have a $10 million grant they are giving to Santa Fe Film Studios. The County is planning to loan said film studio $6 million, plus they will spend $1.5 million on infrastructure improvements .. and the loan doesn't have to be repaid for years! The Federal government is mulling over a new tax to pay for the wars plus countless other fees, fines and taxes to pay for Health Care Reform. Cap & Trade will add another layer of taxes, fees and fines. Locally, the City wants voters to approve spending $30 million to expand the SFCC. Where does it end?

For all of you who have attended the TEA Party rallies and for those who have not yet joined us, I encourage you all to contact your elected officials at all levels of government and express your outrage over the plans to increases taxes and spending while we are in such dire straights financially. Set a meeting up with them and tell them how you feel. Keep the pressure on .. call, write, fax, email ... they need to hear from us.

Watch for updates on this site because we will continue to fight against all this nonsense.

To be directly notified of upcoming events, send an email to us at SantaFePatriots@Live.com. There is talk of making a straight percentage cut across the board. The Governor will try to spare education - a popular political stance. But the real solution is to cut unnecessary spending, reduce these 'exempt' positions that are basically 'created' jobs that were given to his supporters or friends and family members of supporters. We have one of the highest ratios of government employees to citizens in the country! We need to send a strong message that the role of government is to take care of the basics first; our elected officials need to spend our money wisely. If we look at the amount of money that has been stolen by elected officials - many of whom are currently serving time in prison, many more are being investigated or indicted - we need to remember that it is our hard earned money that they took from us in the form of taxes and fees that now sit in their personal bank accounts. It is fine for the Lt. However, there is also a large parking lot across the street from the capitol. If you prefer not to drive into town, there will also be shuttle buses from two malls - DeVargas at the North end and Santa Fe Place at the South end - which will take you to downtown (compliments of the Santa Fe Fiesta, which is going on downtown that weekend.)

If you are coming from out of town, you can use Mapquest to get driving directions into town.

Music and pre-rally events start at 1:30, the speaker program starts at 2 pm. Thank you for joining us!

New Updated Information

Greetings everyone!

The plans are moving along and it is getting exciting! If you would like to donate some money to help us pay for these, please email SantaFeVictory@live.com. Rather, we feel that we can have a greater impact by holding our next TEA Party when the state legislature is called in for a special session, likely in September, to go over the budget shortfall and other financial issues. If no special session is called, we are likely to schedule the rally on 9/12 as there will be nationwide rallies on that day as well. Please watch for details or email us at santafevictory@live.com for updates.

In the meantime, it is important for all of us to continue to bring new people into the movement so that the next rally will be twice as large ... or three times as large. It is important to keep the pressure on elected officials by calling, writing, faxing, emailing, etc. Although we weren't able to stop Cap & Trade in the House, we nevertheless need to put pressure on Senators to stop it in the Senate. The same with health care. Those in the political arena that I have talked to state that these efforts do make a difference, specifically on those elected officials who may not be as committed as the partisans.

We also need to raise money to pay for the next TEA Party. We did not charge admission or require donations. Private individuals helped pay for the expenses of the last one. Each of you can start your own Change for Change fundraising drive and when the time comes to organize the next rally, it would be great for you to donate. Suggestion: get a glass jar and put a label on it "Change For Change" or buy a piggy bank and drop in your coins at the end of the day. Ask your friends to do the same.

There are July 4th TEA Parties planned around the state. To find one near you, go to www.TeaPartyPatriots.org and for ABQ - www.abqteaparty.com.

Have a great summer and watch for action alerts, updates and announcements.

CONTACT INFO FOR SANTA FE GROUPS

FRIENDS OF CAPITALISM

DESCRIPTION: FOC is a citizens' advocacy voice in Santa Fe that support free markets, low taxes, and limited government. Although we don't know the actual number of attendees, we do know that we had 540 signatures on the petition and estimate the total number in attendance to be close to 700!

As I mentioned in my closing comments, the media - as predicted - is spinning the Tea Party movement as rich Republicans, radical right wingers, tax protesters, etc. etc. You've heard and read it all already.

But the fact remains that the power of this movement - and the thing that threatens those currently in power - is that this issue of borrowing too much, spending too much, bailing out too many companies, etc. is angering people from all political parties and from all demographics. It is about time that we stood up to say ENOUGH - and stand up we did!

The work needs to continue. We need to reach out to traditional voters who reject the progressive left agenda. We need to reach out to our fellow fiscal conservatives and get them involved with political action and involvement.

Watch for updates in a few days. We organizers need a rest - but we are making plans for future events.

I will be uploading photos from the Tea Party onto our Spaces webpage - I'll post the link here when it is up.

Thanks again for all your support!

WHAT YOU ARE SAYING

Here are some of the comments we have received from you via email - for the person who asked about threads and comments on this site (that comment came to me via email, not on this site) ... sorry, I haven't figured out how to set that up. I'll get some blog tutoring soon!

Thanks for doing this!

Great Work! Sign us up!

Excellent! My family plans to be at the Tea Party!

Add two more to the Tea Party! I did an online search to see if there was anything planned for Santa Fe – never dreaming that there would be – and was pleasantly surprised! Thanks for organizing this! I’ll be sending a donation to help.

I have been a pretty lonesome Republican since I moved to Santa Fe two years ago, - it's great to know you're out there!

See you there! We wouldn't miss it.

Great site! Good info! So glad to hear there are some conservative minded folk here in Santa Fe!

I will be at the Santa Fe Tea Party (and am bringing others). I will make signs and would like more ideas for wording. I will also help in any other way needed.

I was checking the Internet, signing up for what I could ... but was a bit hopeless for Santa Fe.... I was thinking about going to Albuquerque. This afternoon I heard the good news in a quick spot on the Bill Villanucci show 770 am radio.

I am hoping to attend the S.F. tea party on the 15th. I live in Albuquerque, & know they are putting on one here, but I think an outside event would be more fun. (Also, would like to see Gov. Johnson).

I'm glad you are doing this, tho'. We have to fight back. I've been talking the tea party up to everyone I know and meet.

Yes, I am coming!

I'm planning to attend the Tea Party and can help at the event or before. Let me know what you need.

I just learned that we have an organized Tea Party!! Please if we can be of some help, We would love to be!! We can't believe its happening in Santa Fe!!!
Our very best wishes....

it is great what you are doing.

We live in Rio Rancho, but would much rather go up there for the Tea Party, gotta hear Gary Johnson!!

Thanks for the great work you are doing for our Country

Thank you, again, for spearheading this event. The place is perfect and the plans are just great. I would like to volunteer for whatever needs to be done.

We have to stand up and be heard. Our voice cannot remain silent.

Thank you for all the wonderful work you do.

Count us in!

Two More For Tea!

Thank you for being willing to spearhead this event. I hope we get a lot more than 100 people. Surely more people in Santa Fe have an interest in standing up for what's right.

I want to volunteer!

CONTACT US:

EMAIL - SantaFeVictory@live.com!

IMPORTANT TEA PARTY INFORMATION

MEDIA: The media will likely be covering the event, so bring your megaphones and your signs. When you see a camera filming, gather around, wave your signs, make noise!

PARKING: There is limited parking around the Plaza. LaFonda Hotel has a parking ramp, there are several public parking lots nearby. Make sure you plan to arrive plenty early. Arrange car pools if you can! A good place to meet would be DeVargas on the North side and a similar large parking lot on the South side. If you want to car pool, post a comment and we'll try to connect you with others.

CHECK IN: Please check in at our INFORMATION TABLE. This will help us to determine how many people are attending so we can provide that number to the media and to our elected officials. Encourage everyone you meet to check in as well.

FOOD BANK: We are encouraging Tea Party goers to bring non-perishable food (preferably PORK) products, which will be donated to the food bank.

SIGN THE PETITION: We will have a table, as well as some roving volunteers, with a petition that will be delivered to elected officials at the local, state and federal level.

REGISTER TO VOTE: If you are not currently registered, if you have moved or changed your name or if you want to change your party affiliation, you can register to vote with one of our volunteers. Be sure to bring proper IDs.

STAY CONNECTED: Subscribe to our email list. This will keep you up to date on what events are coming up.

PHOTOS: Bring your camera or camcorder! You can email your best shots to us at SantaFeVictory@live.com and we will post them.

OUR STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS: Our volunteers will be easily identifiable.

IMPOSTERS, TROUBLEMAKERS AND INFILTRATORS!
We don't have any direct information that demonstrators who oppose what we are doing will show up, but it is possible. Don't be drawn into any altercations. Often times, opposition teams will 'appear' to be one of us and cause trouble so as to give us a bad name. Again, don't get drawn into an argument, report inappropriate behavior if you see it.

CAUTION: The only petitions you should sign are the ones managed by our team of volunteers. The only people you should trust to register you to vote should be our people. Don't give out any personal information to other people or groups.

FINAL PUSH: Please help us to spread the word! We are expecting a very successful event and a very large crowd, but the larger the crowd, the more impact we will have. Talk to everyone about the event - friends, family, co-workers, church members, neighbors, etc. If people can't attend but are supportive, have them join our email list.

WHAT'S AHEAD: Tax Day is just one day, we will continue our activism - so stay informed, stay involved. Let me explain what is the final sticking point.

We have applied for a permit to hold the event on the Plaza, a city-owned space. We will have that confirmation today. If we don't get the permit for some reason, we will hold it at the Capital - we just didn't want to publicize the event until that piece of the pie was determined. All of the other details have been worked out.

Without even advertising, we have over 100 people committed to attend - this is just from our own networking! Ads will go in the papers next week, but the most important way to communicate the event is by word - of - mouth. One of the reasons we have been working "under the radar" is to create a surprise on April 15th with hundreds showing up on the Plaza. Once it is publicized, the potential for those who oppose us showing up will increase. But, as written in last night's post, that's the risk you take.

We have a good, active and motivated networking group that is reaching out to groups, organizations and individuals throughout Santa Fe County. We are expecting several hundred to show up. By Friday, we will blast an email out with a copy of the flyer that you can forward to your friends and/or print and put up in locations in your neighborhood.

We have former Governor Gary Johnson booked and two other speakers (including a former State Senator) will be confirmed by Friday.

We will have music, activities for kids, a petition to sign which will be delivered to local, state and national elected politicians. A sign-making party is coming up. We will have music. We will have a collection point for canned goods, which will be donated to the Food Bank. We are encouraging people to bring "pork" products, as ABQ is doing.

Again, the full and complete list of activities will be out by the end of the week. This is a highly organized event and will be the best time for us as a community to stand up and be heard!

Don't forget that on April 14th the County Commission will hold a hearing on increasing property taxes - $1.00 for every $1000 in property value - again, raising taxes in a recession. This will affect all homeowners in Santa Fe County.

The Gross Tax Receipts tax increase and the increase in energy costs if the Obama Administration's Cap and Trade plan, if passed, will affect every one of us who buys anything, who uses energy - for heating, for electricity, for gasoline. The new tax on tobacco has already passed and whether you are a smoker or not, this tax affects all income categories.

The projected deficit and the amount of debt we already have is huge - it will grow even more if Obama's budget is passed. Our children's children will still be paying for it!

Please - stand up and say "ENOUGH!"

Santa Fe politicians need to hear from us! They were shocked when the Transfer Tax was defeated - now we need to show them that they can't just keep messing with the economy of Santa Fe because if affects us all!

*** IF YOU WANT TO BE ON THE EMAIL LIST TO RECIEVE THE FINAL INFORMATION, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO US AT SantaFeVictory@live.com. The answer is .... I don't know! We are promoting this as a non-partisan, peaceful, family-oriented rally. We will act that way and expect participants to do the same. We will also be notifying the police of our event and perhaps their presence will deter any strong harassment by protesters.

But, who knows. Any time that you are visible and vocal, you open yourself up to criticism from the other side. That's the risk you take.

This is an issue that transcends political parties, however those that want more government control, more wealth distribution, less personal intitiative and personal responsibility may see our rally as a threat to their socialist ideals. Those of us on the other side of this philosophical discussion need to stand up and be heard .... if not, we need to stay quiet, stay home and accept what is happening.

Good information!

Good snowy morning, Santa Fe!
Please go to the ABQ tea party website (www.albuquerqueteaparty.com) and scroll down on the home page - you can listen to the Jim Villanucci show's broadcast about the ABQ Tea Party - you will get a lot of great information, suggestions, etc. on how we can make the Santa Fe Tea Party great!
